Sizes & Pricing

The brand offers a variety of mattress series, each focused on a particular feat. The series include Classic, Performance, and Innovation. All of the series share the Classic set of features – Dual Adjustability, Responsive Air and SleepIQ technologies.

The Performance series focuses on delivering enhanced pressure point relief while the Innovation series represent a combination of pressure point relief and temperature balancing. It’s worth mentioning that the prices of Performance and Innovation series mattresses are drastically higher compared to the Classic ones.

Regardless of the type, all mattresses come in six different sizes – Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and Cal King. Here are the details for each:

Twin – The Twin-sized mattress dimensions are 38” x 75” x 8”/10” for the Classic and Performance series, and it’s priced at $599 and $1549, respectively. The Twin size is unavailable for the Innovation series mattresses.

Twin XL – The Twin-XL-sized mattress dimensions are 38” x 80” x  8”/10”/12” for the Classic, Performance, and Innovation series, and it’s priced at $699, $1699, and 2749, respectively.

Full – The Full-sized mattress dimensions are 54” x 75” x  8”/10”/12” for the Classic, Performance, and Innovation series, and it’s priced at $799, $1974, and $3024, respectively.

Queen – The Queen-sized mattress dimensions are 60” x 80” x 8”/10”/12” for the Classic, Performance, and Innovation series, and it’s priced at $999, $2099, $3199, respectively.

King – The King-sized mattress dimensions are 76” x 80” x 8”/10”/12” for the Classic, Performance and Innovation series, and it’s priced at $1499, $2599, and $3899, respectively.

Cal King – The Cal-King-sized mattress dimensions are 72” x 84” x 8”/10”/12” for the Classic, Performance, and Innovation series, and it’s priced at $1499, $2599, and $3899, respectively.

All mattresses come with a 100-night free trial, 25 years warranty, free UPS delivery and in-home setup (including old mattress removal). When compared to other luxury mattress brands, Sleep Number is priced significantly higher, with the average competitor price being $1900. According to over 10,000 reviews on the brand’s website, the smart technology paired with various perks like under-bed lighting and foot-warming is worth the extra price, which is highly questionable. Furthermore, the price difference for Performance and Innovation series is extremely high, especially when considering that pressure point relief and temperature cooling are expected from any luxury mattress.

Sleep Number is widely known for its SleepIQ technology. It is designed to adjust to each sleeper individually and deliver the most personalized sleeping experience possible. The system harnesses data like heart rate, sleep movements, and breathing during the night and automatically adjusts the firmness, comfort, and support on each side of the bed, individually. The software utilizes progressive learning, meaning that it is supposed to improve the sleeping experience with each succeeded night.

Advanced models also have built-in technologies to warm your feet and detect and try to relieve your partner’s snoring by slightly tilting the upper area of the bed on the respective side. All of these metrics can be tracked via the SleepIQ smartphone app, which will deliver some details concerning your last night’s sleep experience, and daily improvements.

In terms of layers and features, all three mattress series share a number of similarities among themselves while also offering advanced perks for specific cases. The basic set of features includes dual adjustability, Responsive Air technology, and SleepIQ technology. Enhanced pressure point relief, superior pressure-relief, and temperature balancing are available for the Performance and Innovation series.

In general, all SleepNumber beds come with single or dual air chambers that inflate or deflate based on your Sleep Number setting (determined during your sleep). The higher the number, the firmer the mattress is. Dual air chambers are designed for couples. Also, all mattresses come with at least one layer of comfort foam that sits above the air chambers, just below the cover. The thickness and height of comfort levels is determined by the series you purchase.

Here are the details for each feature mentioned above:

Dual Adjustability – The feature is used to calculate each sleeper’s Sleep number setting and automatically adjust the comfort level of the mattress during sleep. The Sleep number corresponds to your ideal firmness and support, with the most popular ones ranging from 35-45, on a scale of 1-100.

Responsive Air Technology – Based on the data gathered by the SleepIQ technology, the mattress automatically adjusts to deliver the optimal amount of comfort, firmness and support to each partner on an individual level.

SleepIQ Technology – As described above, this feature is used to gather the sleepers’ data and track how you’re sleeping.

Enhanced Pressure Point Relief – Available in the Performance series, this feature provides a number of additional, exclusive pressure point comfort layers.

Superior Pressure-Relief – Available only in the Innovation series, this feature represents the most luxurious pressure-relieving comfort layers offered by the brand.

Temperature Balancing – Available only in the Innovation series, this feature detects and absorbs excess heat, and releases it to deliver just the right amount of coolness for your case.

Mattress Cover

The cover is made of high-quality materials. It is removable; however, it shouldn’t be machine washed. You should spot clean it using a solution of mild detergent and warm water. You can also use a soft brush in the process. The brand also recommends using a mattress protection pad, which can be purchased separately.

There are a few differences depending on the series you choose. The Classic series mattress cover is the simplest variant. The Performance series cover is a bit softer and thicker, but nothing out of the ordinary. The Innovation series cover features built-in temperature balancing materials that absorb excess heat and release it as necessary to find the perfect temperature balance for your case.

Firmness, Feel & Support

Because each mattress has built-in air chambers, the firmness level can be adjusted individually for each sleeper. In contrast to most other mattress brands, Sleep Number beds’ firmness scale goes from 1-100. This helps the SleepIQ system determine the ideal firmness and automatically adjust it. Lying down on the mattress doesn’t feel great at that very moment. However, as the bed learns your sleep habits and breathing patterns, it adjusts the comfort and support of the bed to create the ideal sleeping environment for you.

Purchase & Delivery Process

The purchase and delivery process is extremely straightforward. You can do it online by choosing the size and the series and desired payment method. There is 36-month 0% financing available for all the beds. As an alternative, you can visit one of the 600 physical stores in the US to test Sleep Number mattresses before buying one. The brand offers a 100-night free trial for all beds, 25-year warranty, free deliveries, returns and installations, along with old mattress removal.

Final Word

Sleep Number offers probably the most individualized sleeping experience to customers, but it comes at a high price. With the main focus of the bed being SleepIQ technology, the mattress doesn’t offer all-natural materials, and it has a short trial period. Compared to other luxury mattress brands on the market, the basic mattresses offer fewer perks, and the top-notch ones cost way more. However, according to over 10,000 user reviews on the website, Sleep Number mattress is well worth their price, if you can afford them.
