Our Verdict
Saatva has done a great job at making luxurious, supportive mattresses more accessible. While there are more budget-friendly brands, Saatva’s beds offer a level of luxury and support even in its simplest models that compete with more high-end options. So if you’re looking to spend around $1.5-2k+, the Saatva Classic is worth considering — it offers great pressure relief, awesome edge support, and respectable motion isolation for an all-spring bed. It’s also great for hot sleepers!
Saatva’s 12 mattress options and customizable firmness mean there’s a mattress in stock for every type of sleeper. They’ve also developed variants specifically for sleepers with back and joint pain.

Products & Pricing
Saatva currently offers 12 different types of mattresses. Eight of them are tailored to adult sleepers, including latex, innerspring, memory foam, and hybrid variants. Whether you sleep hot, toss and turn a lot, are sharing a bed with your partner, or need lots of pressure relief, there’s a Saatva bed that’s right for you.
This review focuses specifically on The Saatva Classic, the brand’s most popular mattress. It’s a pure innerspring mattress with two layers of coils and reinforced edges.
Most of Saatva’s mattresses are available in seven standard sizes; Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King, and Split King. The Classic is also available in a Split Cal King size. A queen-sized Saatva Classic mattress, excluding any discounts, will cost you around $2,095; it’s definitely not a budget mattress by any measure.
Saatva’s prices reflect its focus on premium luxury. While it’s not as expensive as some competing brands, it’s priced higher than more affordable retailers, especially memory foam-centric brands. Even Saatva’s memory foam mattresses are focused on delivering a luxurious sleeping experience, making them pricier than more budget-friendly alternatives.
All Saatva mattresses come with a 365-night free trial, meaning you can comfortably try your Saatva bed out year-round to make sure it’s right for you. If you’re unhappy with your mattress during the trial period, Saatva will take it back in exchange for a full refund, although they do charge a $99 pickup fee.
Saatva’s Lifetime Warranty applies to all its mattresses. This warranty guarantees that your mattress is safe from “defects in workmanship and materials, under normal residential care and use” for as long as you’re the original owner.
Saatva also offers a special “Fairness Replacement Option,” which means you can choose to keep a defective mattress for personal use, and Saatva will send you a new mattress at a discounted rate (the discount depends on how many years have passed since you bought the mattress).
In-depth review
Firmness Level
Saatva lets you customise your mattress’ firmness; for the Classic, you can pick from Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm options. The Luxury Firm is the Saatva Classic’s most popular variant, and we rate it at around 7.5 on the firmness scale (with one being very soft and ten being very firm). This makes it a great option for side, back, and combo sleepers. Stomach sleepers, especially heavier ones, might want to go for the “Firm” option for the added support.
The Classic did a great job at providing support and point-pressure relief, thanks to its two coil layers. Saatva’s beds prioritize edge support as a “must-have” rather than a luxury, and the Classic reflects this policy. Its reinforced edges offers incredible edge support.
For a spring mattress, the Saatva Classic isolates motion commendably well; It scores an 8/10 overall. It outclasses many other spring and hybrid beds in this category, although an all-foam bed might still pull ahead.
The Classic is quite responsive, but not as bouncy, but it’s earned a 7/10 in responsiveness. When you lie down on the Classic, you don’t sink right through, thanks to the bed’s firmness, and the coils provide quick support to your pressure points. The mattress also works a real treat for hot sleepers; Saatva’s focus on improving air circulation really shines through.
Cooling Properties
The Saatva Classic is both breathable and cool, due to the organic cotton cover and also the dual-coil design of the mattress. These two allow for more airflow to assist in the dispersion of body heat.
Pressure Relief
The Saatva Classic Mattress cradles and contours to your body, offering pressure relief to help pain points within the body. The Saatva Classic scores a 8/10 with regards to pressure relief.
Responsiveness
With regards to responsiveness, the Classic Mattress does a good job of forming and contouring to your body.
Motion Isolation
In terms of motion transfer, the Saatva Classic scores very well. If you were to place a glass of water on one side of the mattress and sit on the other side the glass will remain motionless. In terms of sleeping, this means if you were to share a bed with others, be it a significant other, child, or pet you won’t feel other’s movements in your sleep which allows you to remain undisturbed for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Edge Support
Another strong feature of the Saatva Classic is it’s edge support. Even if you were to sit on the very edge of the bed you will feel the stability the mattress has to offer.
Construction
The Saatva mattress is a pure innerspring bed, meaning unlike hybrid options, its innerspring coils comprise the main layers. Here’s an overview of the bed’s five layers:
The pillow-top cover
The Saatva Classic’s top layer is a plush, luxurious Euro pillow-top made of organic cotton. Its Lumbar Zone Quilting technology increases pressure relief by giving your body more support at the center third of the bed. You can choose from three firmness options to customize your sleep experience.
The memory foam layer
The Classic’s next layer is made from high-density, CertiPUR-US-certified memory foam that’s designed to keep your spine aligned and alleviate pressure.
Middle coil layer
This layer is constructed from individually wrapped, pocketed coils designed to increase airflow, provide support, and reduce motion transfer. The coils in this layer are made from 14.5-gauge recycled steel. 14.5-gauge coils aren’t particularly thick, giving the mattress its “medium-firm” feel and providing pressure relief to your joints and hips.
The coils are concentrated at the mattress’s center, where most of your body weight lies.
Edge support layer
This layer, comprised of high-density foam rails, wraps around the foundational coil layer sandwiched between the two coil layers. It gives the mattress its signature reinforced edges, which make it easy to get in and out of bed.
Foundational layer
A sturdy, dual-coil foundation makes up the Saatva Classic’s final layer, increasing the bed’s airflow and providing even more pressure relief.
This layer’s base coils are designed from 13-gauge (meaning they’re made using thick and durable wire) tempered steel, which increases the mattress’ long-term durability and reduces sinkage.
Mattress cover
The Saatva Classic is topped with a breathable pillow-top cover made from hypoallergenic, GOTS-certified organic cotton. It features a natural, plant-based flame barrier and is bacteria-resistant. The non-removable cover is also foam-quilted, making it feel soft and pillow-like while offering more support.
Adjustable beds
In terms of adjustable bed frames, Saatva offers two – The Saatva Adjustable & The Adjustable Plus.
For enhanced comfort and to maximize the rejuvenating effects of Saatva brand mattresses, including the Saatva Classic, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven, the Adjustable Base & Adjustable Base Plus is designed to support you throughout the day. With a one-touch remote, control the position of your bed, raising your head, feet, or both for Zero-Gravity support. The Saatva mattress adjustable bases also features under-bed illumination to light your path in the middle of the night, a wall-hugging design that keeps your bedside table within reach, 3-speed wave massage, and a whisper-soft sealed motor.
Both Adjustable Bases come in the standard 5 sizes and have free in-room delivery & setup. The Adjustable Base & Adjustable Base Plus come with a 10-year warranty and 25-year warranty respectively.

Game Changer!
I never thought I would buy a mattress online, but this was a great purchase! The adjustable base is a game changer & I would recommend it to anyone who suffers from pain issues or just wants to get to an optimal sleep position.
Best Mattress ever!!
My husband and I have a split king adjustable bed, we purchased our twin XL mattresses a year ago and so far they are the best we've had. Even better than the original one's that came with the bed. They still feel like new and my bad back at least allows me to get some good sleep on them. If they ever show to be breaking down I will be replacing them with another set from Saatva.
Best mattress!
I LOVE my Saatva mattress! And I am very picky! Also there customer service is the best I have ever experienced!

Does this mattress need a separate box spring and does it include a bed frame?
A box spring is not necessary, but you may like to have a box spring, platform, or frame to raise the height of the mattress. When purchasing the Saatva mattress online, you'll be offered the option to add a bed frame and base. The delivery of your mattress includes free set up with the frame as well.
Does the mattress have side handles, and is the mattress flipable? What about rotation?
Yes, the Saatva does have side handles. The Saatva mattress should be rotated (not flipped) every year.
Both myself and husband have some serious back issues, so which of your mattress do you feel would be best for us?
I don’t want a really hard or firm mattress but husband doesn’t want one that is too soft where you sink down and makes it hard to roll over or get out of bed. Also, which height do you feel would be best? We have a King Size and feel that is what we would want to continue to have.
As we are not medical professionals, we cannot comment on which mattress is best for you and your husband's "serious back issues" -- this may be something you'd like to speak to your doctor or physical therapist about. Saatva offers mattresses in a variety of firmness levels. If you and your husband want a mattress that is not too soft nor too firm, you may find the Luxury Firm most comfortable. The Luxury Firm is firmer than the Plush Soft but less hard than the Firm. If you have difficulty getting into and out of bed, a mattress that, combined with foundation, is a comfortable height for you may help. Saatva offers both 11.5" and 14.5" height options.
