About the brand
Saatva is an online mattress retailer with a variety of options, including even different firmness levels to cater to all sleep styles. I just got my Saatva Classic mattress and I can’t wait to tell you all about my experience on my first nap on it, looking into some factors that are really important to consider when buying a mattress such as firmness, edge support, motion transfer, personal touch, pressure relief, responsiveness and pricing. Also, just for your referen...ce while reading my review of the mattress, I’m a 5’6, 150 pound side sleeper and I toss and turn all night long even when I’m not pregnant. I also share the bed with my hubby. Read more

Our Verdict
I think the Saatva Classic Mattress is an excellent bed with some unique benefits to it. It’s really nice and soft, has some cooling properties and has amazing edge support – probably the best I’ve seen on a mattress. As for the pricing, I would put it in the ‘pamper yourself’ category since it falls around the $1,500 to $2,000 mark, making it the kind of bed to splurge on yourself a little bit. The 365 night sleep trial is also quite generous making for a low risk option to try it out and see if it’s right for you before you fully commit.
Pros
-
High-quality, USA-based manufacturing
-
Variety of firmness options
-
CertiPUR-US certified foam
Cons
-
Not a bed-in-a-box service
-
Not the cheapest option

Firmness Level
The Saatva mattress, or at least the one I got to try out, the Saatva Classic mattress is pretty firm. I would even say it’s probably about a 9/10 on the firmness level. I found it to be very comfortable, but those looking for a more soft option probably wouldn’t love this one. Saatva also offers different mattresses that are less firm too.
Cooling Properties
I found the mattress to be very breathable and cool, and I think it’s because of the organic cotton cover and also the dual-coil design of the mattress. These two allow for more airflow to assist in the dispersion of body heat. I’m not specifically a hot sleeper but it was still a nice, comfortable feeling.
Pressure Relief
Something else that’s really important to me, especially right now as I’m pregnant is pressure relief – I get even more aches and pains throughout my entire body than I do in my normal every day life, so this is something I want to put a special focus on here. When I lay down, I feel like it helps cradle my body and kind of helps those pain points within my body. It also helps relieve some of that pressure, so I’d give the Saatva Classic Mattress as much as a 8/10 on the pressure relief ranking.
Responsiveness
Now for responsiveness, I feel like when I lay down on it, it does form to my body pretty well and has some nice, high-quality materials in there that seem to lend themselves to that. With that being said, I would probably give the Saatva Classic Mattress that I got to test out a 7/10 on the responsiveness scale.
Motion Isolation
I performed the classic motion transfer test on the Saatva Classic Mattress with a glass of water to see what would happen when my husband and I share the bed – will we feel each other’s movements and be disturbed in our sleep? I took a glass of water, I put it on one side of the bed and went to sit on the other side to see what happens. Once I moved, there wasn’t any motion and I was very impressed to say the least. This makes me confident it would be a great choice for my husband and I, and really for any couple sharing the bed. I’ll give it a 9/10 on motion isolation.
Edge Support
The edge support here was wild, I seriously couldn’t believe it. Even after scooting over to the furthest edge of the bed, I really never felt this stable. It’s got a really nice firm surrounding.
Construction
Saatva Classic
The Saatva Classic mattress combines wrapped comfort coils, foam layers, edge support, and a cotton cover. It’s constructed from the following layers:
Foam layer: Under the quilted cover is a memory foam enhancement layer which is responsible for providing exceptional pressure relief and continuous airflow. Saatva uses CertiPUR-US foam.
Individually wrapped coils: This layer of wrapped coils adds bounce to the mattress and helps in providing body support. These coils also play a part in the mattress isolating motion.
Support layer: The support layer comprises of steel coils which act as the mattress’ support layer and also help in making the user feel adequately supported. These coils along with the ones placed above them add to the bounce of the mattress and add to its pressure-responsiveness.
Foundation: The last layer of the mattress is made up of high-density polyfoam. This foundation acts as the mattress’ edge support and ensures that the mattress keeps its shape at all times.
Saatva Latex Hybrid
The Saatva Latex Hybrid features four layers, not counting the organic cotton cover. They are as follows:
Organic wool layer: Sitting right beneath the cover of the mattress, this organic New Zealand wool layer acts as a natural fire retardant while also being breathable to prevent overheating at night.
Talalay latex layer: Talalay is considered a premium latex and of higher quality than Dunlop latex. This layer provides the sleeper with support and is very responsive to the body. Nevertheless, you won’t feel like you sink into it as much as you would with memory foam. This latex layer has a five zone design that provides more firmness and pressure relief specifically in the lumbar region.
Quantum edge coil unit: In this layer, you’ll find three types of coils that work together to provide incredible support while contouring to your body, isolate motion, and provide excellent edge support.
Organic eco loft pad: The final layer of the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress provides stability for your mattress and all of the layers above it.
Saatva Modern Foam
The Saatva Modern Foam has four layers of foam, including latex and cooling foams.
Natural Latex Lumbar Support Layer: The use of latex adds to the strength and durability of the mattress, giving you extra sleep support and making it last longer than most foam mattresses.
Hi-Airflow Convoluted Foam Layer: This layer allows the airflow to move throughout the mattress enhancing its cooling properties.
Cooling Gel-Infused Memory Foam Layer: Absorbs heat as well as contains memory foam properties to contour to and hug your body.
Premium Base Support Core Foam: A dense layer of foam which contributes ultimate support, comfort and durability
Saatva mattresses are made in the USA.
Mattress cover
The Saatva Classic, Hybrid Latex, and Modern Foam mattresses feature covers that are made of soft and breathable GOTS-certified organic cotton. The cover is foam-quilted, adding to the mattress’s pressure relief and its gentleness. Due to an antimicrobial fabric treatment, the cover is bacteria-resistant.

Best mattress!
I LOVE my Saatva mattress! And I am very picky! Also there customer service is the best I have ever experienced!
extremely comfortable
Feels like I'm sleeping on a cloud. Very soft yet firm. I will definitely get another one!
Fantastic mattress...
I purchased a Saatva mattress five years ago. This is by far the best mattress I ever purchased. I work in freight business, physical labor. and after a long day, sleep and rest is so important. I purchased the medium mattress, and it is not to hard, nor soft, and I totally relax for a great nites sleep.. After 5 years, its as comfortable as the day I purchased it.. Definitely recommend this great mattress, its well worth the price you pay..

Thank you!
Does this mattress need a separate box spring and does it include a bed frame?
A box spring is not necessary, but you may like to have a box spring, platform, or frame to raise the height of the mattress. When purchasing the Saatva mattress online, you'll be offered the option to add a bed frame and base. The delivery of your mattress includes free set up with the frame as well.
Does the mattress have side handles, and is the mattress flipable? What about rotation?
Yes, the Saatva does have side handles. The Saatva mattress should be rotated (not flipped) every year.
Both myself and husband have some serious back issues, so which of your mattress do you feel would be best for us?
I don’t want a really hard or firm mattress but husband doesn’t want one that is too soft where you sink down and makes it hard to roll over or get out of bed. Also, which height do you feel would be best? We have a King Size and feel that is what we would want to continue to have.
As we are not medical professionals, we cannot comment on which mattress is best for you and your husband's "serious back issues" -- this may be something you'd like to speak to your doctor or physical therapist about. Saatva offers mattresses in a variety of firmness levels. If you and your husband want a mattress that is not too soft nor too firm, you may find the Luxury Firm most comfortable. The Luxury Firm is firmer than the Plush Soft but less hard than the Firm. If you have difficulty getting into and out of bed, a mattress that, combined with foundation, is a comfortable height for you may help. Saatva offers both 11.5" and 14.5" height options.
