Looking to buy a reliable memory foam mattress? If so, you might have come across Siena and Nectar – two leading bed-in-a-box brands that produce comfortable, reliable mattresses, backed by excellent warranties. They’re also owned by the same parent company, Resident Homes. If you’re interested in one of these brands, you probably want to know how their mattresses compare, and the differences between Siena vs. Nectar’s policies. The good news is that you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ve thoroughly compared the two brands and shared guidelines to help you pick the right one for your sleep needs.
What you need to consider when choosing a mattress
Before we get to our detailed comparison of Siena vs. Nectar, it’s important to keep a few factors in mind that will help you make the right decision. You’ll want to consider the following:
- Your sleeping position. Are you a side, back, front, or combination sleeper? Most people are side sleepers – which memory foam mattresses are usually perfect for. Foam mattresses also typically suit back and combo sleepers, but front sleepers usually prefer firmer beds.
- How hot you sleep. Foam mattresses tend to trap body heat, so if you sleep hot, an all-foam option might not be the best choice (unless it has cooling properties).
- If you’re single or a couple. If two of you are sleeping together in one bed, you’ll want to prioritize some additional factors, like the edge support and motion isolation.
- Your budget. Nowadays, thanks to bed-in-a-box brands, you can get mattresses at really competitive rates. If you’re buying on a budget, Siena is a more affordable option. But if you’re looking to splurge, Nectar has some premium models that are worth looking into.
- Policies. In the mattress-in-a-box industry, the industry standard for policies are:
- 100-night sleep trial.
- 10-year warranty.
- Free shipping and returns in the continental U.S.Since many brands are more generous in their offers, it’s worth comparing their policies (for example, Siena and Nectar both offer longer sleep trials, and Nectar provides an industry-leading sleep trial).
Now, with these considerations in mind, let’s take a closer look at the two brands, and how Siena vs. Nectar mattresses compare.
Siena
As I mentioned above, Siena and Nectar are owned by the same parent company, but Siena is relatively newer in the mattress business. And while both brands offer great value for money, Siena markets its mattress as a budget-friendly option.
Sienna’s mattress is constructed of three layers, including a top memory foam layer, a middle transition layer, and a dense, supportive bottom foam layer. Siena claims its mattress is ‘medium-firm’ (i.e., scoring 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale), but it feels firmer when you sleep on it. A score of 7.5 is probably more accurate here, but the firmness you experience also depends on your build, body weight, and sleeping position.
You can buy the Siena mattress in any standard U.S. size, including Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. After you place your order online, Siena will deliver your mattress for free, and it’ll arrive in a box. Then, you can unbox the mattress and let it decompress (this can take up to around 3 hours).
Siena lets you try their mattress out risk-free for 180 nights. If you’re not happy with your mattress during the trial period, you can return it for free in exchange for a full refund. Additionally, all Siena mattresses are backed by a 10-year warranty.
Nectar
Founded in 2016, Nectar Sleep has since become one of the most popular online mattress brands in the U.S. The company is best known for its flagship Nectar mattress, which is still its most popular model. Now, they also offer two more beds – the Nectar Premier and Nectar Premier Copper, measuring 13 and 14 inches, respectively.
The flagship Nectar mattress is 12 inches tall with a ‘medium-firm’ feel – it checks in at 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, making it suitable for most sleepers. And, like the Siena mattress, it’s available in all standard U.S. sizes.
The mattress is comprised of three layers – a top memory foam layer, a transition layer in the middle, and a high-density supportive foam layer at the bottom. If you really like the ‘hug’ like feel of memory mattresses, then you’ll love the Nectar mattress. It contours perfectly to your body shape and keeps you comfortable and in place.
Additionally, the whole bed is wrapped in both a shift-resistant bottom cover and a cool, breathable top cover. You can also unzip the top cover to take it off when you need to clean it.
As far as service and policies go, Nectar delivers the best in the business. The company offers an industry-leading 365-night free trial and a lifetime warranty on all Nectar mattresses, as well as free shipping and returns.
Nectar VS. Siena: Key similarities and differences
Our comparison will mostly focus on the signature all-foam Nectar mattress and the Siena mattress, since they’re close competitors.
Here’s a quick overview of four key similarities and differences between Nectar and Siena.
Similarities |
Differences |
|
Both brands are popular, online mattress-in-a-box companies |
Siena offers a 180-nights sleep trial, whereas Nectar’s is for 365. |
|
Both brands offer free shipping and returns |
The Siena mattress is far more affordable than the Nectar. |
|
Both companies specialize in memory foam mattresses |
The Siena mattress is more responsive, whereas the Nectar mattress feels denser. |
|
Both mattresses offer similar motion isolation and temperature regulation. |
Siena offers a 10-year warranty, whereas Nectar’s warranty is forever. |
Now, let’s unpack these similarities and differences a bit more. First, it’s important to understand that, since both the Nectar mattress and the Siena mattress are memory foam beds, they share some core characteristics. Namely, they offer similar:
- Motion isolation. Memory foam mattresses excel at isolating motion, making them a good choice for couples who want to share a bed without disturbing each other. Siena and Nectar’s mattresses do a great job of minimizing motion transfer.
- Edge support. For an all-foam bed, the Nectar mattress offers decent edge support, – so you don’t need to worry about rolling off it while you sleep. However, Siena’s mattress’s edge support could do with some improvement. Since both mattresses are all-foam beds, they don’t have particularly impressive edge support by design. So if you’re looking for a bed with really good edge support, you might want to consider Nectar’s hybrid options.
- Temperature regulation. All-foam mattresses usually trap body heat, which is a problem for hot sleepers. However, Siena and Nectar have done a nice job constructing ‘temperature-neutral’ beds by infusing cooling gel in their top foam layer. The mattresses still don’t cool you down per se, but they don’t sleep hot either.
As you’ll notice from the differences we’ve listed, Nectar’s policies are more generous than Siena’s. While both brands offer free shipping and returns, Nectar’s sleep trial lasts a full year, while Siena’s is limited to 180 nights. Similarly, while Siena offers a 10-year warranty – the industry standard – Nectar offers a bold “Lifetime Warranty,” the best in the industry.
Since Siena and Nectar are both bed-in-a-box brands, their mattresses are more affordable than traditional ones. This is because they serve customers directly, without any expensive retailers, middlemen, or overhead costs.
However, while Nectar’s mattresses are affordable, Siena’s are cheaper – the company markets its mattress as budget memory foam beds. For reference, Siena’s Queen mattress retails at $699 (without discounts), while Nectar’s is priced at $1,049. Both these brands frequently offer discounts, though, so you can buy either mattress at much lower rates.
Siena vs Nectar: which should you choose?
Nectar and Siena’s signature memory foam mattresses have a lot in common, and if you’re looking for an all-foam bed, you can’t go wrong with either option. They’re both respected brands that have been in the business for years, with lots of happy customers.
But, Siena’s the better choice if you’re buying on a budget – the company’s beds are several hundred dollars cheaper than Nectar’s. On the other hand, if you’re looking to pay a bit more to protect your investment, Nectar’s “Lifetime Warranty” and 365-nights trial are almost too good to pass up.
With Nectar, you also get better edge support, which is great for couples. It’s also nice having a removable cover, because you’ll find it much easier to keep your mattress clean.
As I mentioned earlier, both these all-foam beds are perfect for side sleepers, couples, combo sleepers, and even back sleepers that don’t need a particularly firm mattress. But if you’re a front sleeper, or if you sleep hot, it’s worth looking into Nectar’s premium and hybrid options. Their Premier Copper Hybrid mattress, for example, offers advanced cooling properties and really solid edge support.
Well, that concludes my review of the Siena mattress vs. Nectar mattress. I hope you found this comparison helpful, and if you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment below!
