Sizes & Pricing
You can choose from six different sizes for the Saatva Modern Foam mattress, with the Twin being the smallest and the Split King the largest. Each mattress comes with a 180-night free trial, a 12-year warranty, free in-room delivery and setup, and free mattress removal.
Saatva’s Modern Foam is on the more expensive size, costing more than what many competing all-foam mattress providers offer. But that’s largely because Saatva’s mattress is more of a luxury bed, with premium materials and a plush pillow top.
Overview
Saatva is a leading mattress brand that designs high-quality, luxury mattresses. The sleep company used to exclusively offer hybrid and innerspring mattresses, but has recently launched an all-foam model, the Modern Foam mattress.
Construction
The Saatva Modern Foam mattress is comprised of four core layers (plus a cover), which are:
The Latex Crown Layer
This half-inch zoned layer provides lumbar support and makes the mattress more responsive than traditional foam beds. It also prevents body impressions from forming over time and reduces sinkage, which are otherwise typical traits for memory foam mattresses.
The High-Airflow Convoluted Foam Layer
This two-inch layer has open-air channels that draw and expel excess body heat, keeping you cool during sleep. The layer is also high-density and ensures the mattress contours to your body.
The Gel-infused Foam Layer
This one-inch layer works with the convoluted foam layer to provide superior cooling, by absorbing and dispersing your body heat.
High-density Base Layer
This seven-inch high-density foam layer keeps your mattress stable and forms a supportive foundation. The layer is comprised of open-cell foam, increasing your bed’s overall breathability.
Mattress Cover
Saatva’s mattress cover is luxurious, soft, and made of 100% organic cotton. It’s also breathable and hypoallergenic, keeping you cool and fresh during sleep.
Firmness, Feel & Support
Saatva’s Modern Foam mattress is slightly firmer than your traditional memory foam bed. We rate it at around 7 on a scale of 1-10, where 1 is super soft, and 10 is very firm.
Competing memory foam beds usually score 6-6.5 on the scale, but the Saatva’s latex top and high-density core increase its firmness.
However, the Saatva Modern Foam bed isn’t firm enough for stomach sleepers, who generally need more supportive options. It’s ideal for side and back sleepers, though, providing appreciable support and the right amount of sinkage.
Side sleepers will find the mattress sinks in slightly and relieves pressure from your hips and shoulders, and back sleepers receive appreciable lumbar support. Additionally, you don’t have to worry about sleeping hot, thanks to the bed’s two cooling layers,
The Saatva Modern Foam model isn’t the best option for couples, though. It reduces motion transfer significantly, but less so than some competing foam beds, and the edge support is lacking. So, if you’re sharing a bed, you might want to consider Saatva’s hybrid options or another brand.
Purchase & Delivery Process
You can order the Modern Foam mattress online, and Saatva will deliver it directly to your doorstep for free. After the mattress is delivered, you’ll have 180 nights to try it out risk-free.
The mattress comes with a 12-year warranty, and the twin-size costs a little over $700. Additionally, Saatva’s beds are not mattress-in-a-box variants, so they are delivered ready-to-use. You don’t need to wait for them to decompress, and there is no off-gassing.

Final Word
Saatva’s Modern Foam model has taken the brand away from its traditional hybrid options and into the all-foam world. But unlike many competing memory foam mattresses, Saatva’s is more luxurious and consequently costs more. Their model also sleeps cooler than most all-foam beds, thanks to its construction.
If you’re a side or back sleeper and budget isn’t an issue for you, then Saatva’s Modern Foam mattress is a great choice. However, if you’re buying on a budget, you might want to consider cheaper all-foam beds from competing brands.
We don’t recommend the Saatva Modern Foam bed for front sleepers because, like most all-foam mattresses, it’s not firm enough. Front sleepers might want to explore the brand’s hybrid beds instead.
If you’re on the fence about buying Saatva’s foam mattress, the 180-night free trial presents a great opportunity to try it out.
