Layla

The two-in-one design of the Layla mattress was created with the intention of offering both a soft and a firm mattress for those that either can’t decide or want to have the option of both which is really cool in my opinion. This is, however, provided that both sides are comfortable to your firmness and softness preferences, with the firm side being a 7/10 and the softer side a 4/10.

The soft side is better in terms of cooling, however both sides of the mattress proved to offer great temperature regulation, and this is actually one of the Layla’s mattresses strongest selling points. The copper-infused memory foam is designed to redirect body heat away from you while sleeping.

The copper in the Layla mattress assists in pressure relief, as it’s known to provide additional support in those problematic areas such as the back, shoulders and hips. It’s also important to mention that I found the soft side better for me in terms of my pressure points.

In terms of responsiveness, this mattress isn’t ideal, especially on the softer side. For combination sleepers, I wouldn’t recommend the Layla mattress.

The Layla mattress is great in terms of motion isolation and you are very unlikely to feel your partner moving if you’re sharing the bed – I really loved this as someone that’s not the deepest sleeper.

Edge support on the Layla mattress is nothing to rave about, especially on the soft side. I did feel like I was going to fall off although I did not, but was lacking that extra feeling of support I would have liked from a mattress.

Layla Mattress is designed as a double-sided bed with one softer side offering a cradling and relaxing feel, providing the feeling of sleeping “in” a bed rather than “on” a bed. The other side is firmer and offers maximum support. The 10.5” mattress consists of four layers:

1. 1″ Copper Infused Memory Foam – While not the thickest, the foundation layer offers great firmness and compression support at 3.5 lb density, which is pretty good given the height of the foundation. Copper serves as an antimicrobial ingredient and provides rapid heat transfer.
2. 5″ Base Support Foam – The core support layer of the mattress has 2 lb density and 36 ILD, which is the standard firmness measurement unit for Talalay Latex mattresses.
3. Convoluted Support Foam – The 1.8 lb density convolution layer is responsible for cradling the sleepers’ body and minimizing movement, while also ensuring maximum airflow and creating a cool sleeping environment.
4. 3″ Copper Infused Memory Foam – The soft top layer of Layla Mattress has 3.5 lb density and offers deep compression support. It provides rapid heat transfer and antimicrobial effects thanks to the copper component.

While the company puts a great emphasis on the coolness aspect of the mattress, apart from the convulsion support foam, there are no specific mechanisms in place to enable maximum air circulation as you’d find in higher standard mattresses. Furthermore, poor heat transfer and hot sleeping is a common complaint among many previous owners of the mattress.

Layla doesn’t utilize any harmful chemicals, heavy metals, or formaldehyde in its construction system.  Layla memory foam mattresses use foams that pass CertiPUR-US inspection meaning it doesn’t use a material if, it cannot be called green or eco-friendly. However, Layla does utilize chemical compounds to create their final products.

The Layla Mattress cover is soft and thermogel-infused, which is used to reduce heat and deliver a cool sleeping experience. The cover isn’t removable or washable (dry clean only) so users are highly advised to cover it up to avoid damaging the fabric or ruining the cooling mechanism. The top and sides of the Layla Mattress zipper cover are 66% polyester, 30% viscose, 4% poly/lycra, while the bottom is 100% polyester.
