The Helix Crib Mattress uses a flippable, two-sided design built around Helix’s “Two Firmnesses, One Mattress” approach: an extra-firm side for infants and a firm side for toddlers. Helix recommends starting with the extra-firm infant side from night one, then flipping the mattress over to the firm toddler side as your child grows. Because both sides live in a single mattress, there’s no need to buy a separate toddler mattress later — you simply flip it. Helix advises talking to your pediatrician about the right time to make that switch for your child.

The mattress core is made with CertiPUR-US® certified foam, so the foam has been independently tested for content, emissions, and durability. That core is wrapped in a 100% waterproof Easy Airflow Cover engineered around two goals at once. First, 360° waterproofing on all sides keeps liquid out of the core entirely, which Helix says helps prevent bacteria, mold, and mites from taking hold. Second, a 3D honeycomb weave in the cover opens roughly ¼-inch air pockets across the surface, so heat can escape and air can circulate rather than getting trapped against the waterproof layer. The mattress is GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low-emission materials and is assembled in the USA at Helix’s Arizona facility.

The cover is a 100% waterproof, breathable Easy Airflow Cover designed for what Helix calls a “2-minute crib reset”: unzip the dirty cover, zip on a clean one, and toss the dirty cover in the wash — no need to strip and remake the whole crib after a middle-of-the-night accident. For care, machine wash the cover on a cold, delicate cycle and tumble dry low; don’t bleach it, and replace the cover if it’s damaged. The mattress core itself can be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. An extra cover is sold separately ($59, reg. $73.75) so there’s always a clean one on hand.

The Helix Crib Mattress ships free and typically arrives in 3-7 business days after ordering directly from Helix’s site. It comes in one size, Standard Crib (28 in W × 52 in L × 6 in H), which Helix says fits every standard-size crib snugly against all four sides — any standard crib fitted sheet will fit it too. Once it arrives, families get a 120-night sleep trial to try it at home; if it’s not the right fit, Helix will take it back for a free return and a full refund. The mattress is also covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
