Bear Mattress

The Bear Original mattress is a medium-firm mattress, ranking a 7/10.  According to Bear, this is the ‘sweet-spot’ of firmness for the majority of sleepers, offering the ideal combination of both support and comfort.  Other than the Elite Hybrid, all of Bear’s mattresses are medium-firm with only really small differences.

The Bear mattress is great for hot sleepers, especially athletes who are known to be hot sleepers themselves as well.  It’s specially designed for a cool sleep, using open-cell memory foam that promotes better airflow. Since the Bear mattress is designed for athletes, it also means that it’s going to score incredibly well on the pressure relief. So even if you’re not an athlete, it doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from this pressure relieving mattress and all it’s beneficial properties built for sore muscles.  For lighter sleepers under 130 pounds however, this mattress might be too firm.

The Bear mattress is more responsive than many memory foam mattresses, which comes slightly at the expense of motion transfer – so it really depends what’s most important to you when choosing a mattress.  One of its four layers is a responsive transition foam layer that also increases the mattress’ support and provides additional pressure relief.

I performed the glass of water test and it didn’t move at all when I sat on the other side, however since the mattress is far more responsive than most memory foam mattresses,  if you sleep with a partner you might feel their motions. But then again, it all depends on how intense the movements are and how light or deep of a sleeper you are.

The Bear Original didn’t prove to be so great in terms of edge support, leaving me with a feeling of ‘sinkage’ and almost as though I was going to fall off when sitting near the edge of the mattress.  Many foam mattresses lack firmness in the perimeter that would be needed to provide more support at the edge.

Bear Original

The Original Bear Mattress consists of the following three layers:
