Bear Mattress was founded in 2014 by Scott Paladini. The company’s focus is sports mattresses, and you’ll notice a number of athletes pictured on their website and offering testimonials. The company currently offers three mattress models: the Bear Hybrid, Bear Pro, and Bear Mattress.
The Original Bear Mattress consists of the following three layers:
Memory Foam Infused with Graphite Gel: This very special type of memory foam is used on the top layer because it creates a sleeping surface that is seven times cooler than the traditional memory foam.
Highly Responsive Memory Foam: This layer is designed to provide you with excellent support that will respond to your movements. The special foam that is used by Bear has a faster response time, so it will adjust to your movements more quickly than other types of memory foam.
High-Density Support Foam: This bottom layer consists of high-density support foam, which will give you the sturdy foundation that the mattress needs. It also provides the overall shape of the mattress.
The Bear Pro Mattress is composed of four layers beneath its cover:
Copper-Infused Foam: This layer is designed to help you stay cool and fresh while asleep.
Gel Memory Foam: Gel provides additional cooling and dissipates heat.
Responsive Transition Foam: This foam layer provides both support as well as all-over pressure relief.
High-Density Support Foam: The base layer is made up of high-density foam for durability.
The Bear Hybrid Mattress features five layers in addition to the cover:
Hypersoft Cooling Gel Foam: This layer is closest to your body and promotes overall coolness.
Premium Comfort Foam: This foam layer contours to your body shape so that you feel perfectly comfortable while you sleep.
Responsive Transition Foam: This is the same as in the Pro, offering support and pressure relief.
Edge Coil Support: As a hybrid mattress, this model obviously features coils! These coils are designed to provide excellent edge support.
Hight-Density Support Foam: As with the Original and Pro, this high-density base layer promotes mattress durability.
Most textiles work to trap or vent your body heat. The cover of Bear mattresses, on the other hand, is made with something called Celliant Technology. It uses a blend of minerals and proprietary ingredients that are incorporated into the fibers of the mattress cover. Bear Mattress customers note that this is one of their favorite features and that they wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated because of it.
Firmness, Feel & Support
Bear mattresses are all medium-firm, with slight differentiations. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the firmest, the original Bear Mattress rates a 7.1, the Pro rates a 6.5, and the Hybrid rates a 6.1.
The memory foam Bear Mattress and Bear Pro provide more of a cradling feel, whereas the Hybrid, with its addition of springs, feels slightly less so. The Hybrid also has better edge support than the Original or Pro.
Another benefit of memory foam is that it’s great for motion isolation, meaning you’re less likely to feel your partner or a pet moving in your bed at night. The Hybrid provides a bit more bounce than Bear’s other two models.
While all three models feature cooling properties, you’ll sleep coolest on the Bear Hybrid. The coils allow for greater airflow and breathability than memory foam alone, even memory foam that is infused with gel and cooling graphite or copper.
