The starting price is $350 for Twin Original and goes up to $750 for King and Cal King. In the below-$1000-price category, the Original strikes out as a cost-efficient deal. The Mint starts out at $670.50 for a Twin and goes up to $1,255.50 for a King or Cal King. Finally, the Hybrid Twin is priced at $895.50, and that price rises to $1,705.50 for a King or Cal King.

All mattresses come with a 100-night free trial, free deliveries and returns, and a 10-year limited warranty. Overview

Tuft and Needle is a US-based mattress and sleeping accessories manufacturer and retailer. The idea was born in 2012, and the company was started by two software engineers. Today, the brand has over 150 employees. In 2018, Tuft & Needle signed a partnership with Serta Simmons Bedding, one of the world’s largest mattress manufacturers. The mattress is designed for all types of sleepers. It is particularly recommended to people who tend to twist and turn a lot during sleep. The company currently offers three types of mattresses: Original, Mint and Hybrid.

Construction

Tuft & Needle have created their brand around simplicity. All of their products hardly have any complexities in terms of construction and design. The Original is a 10” tall mattress that features two foam layers. The Mint and the Hybrid are both 12″ tall. The Mint includes 3 layers and the Hybrid offers 6 layers for support and comfort.

Graphite and Ceramic Gel

Resting just below the cover is graphite and ceramic gel. Graphite is known for its ability to absorb heat and is used to keep it away from the sleeper. This process is supported and complemented with a special ceramic, cooling gel, which absorbs heat and moisture and disperses it from the sides of the mattress. The Mint includes 30% more graphite and 30% more gel beads, for an even cooler sleep.

T&N Adaptive Foam

The main aspect of The Original’s construction is the brand’s trademark T&N Adaptive foam. The layer features an open-cell structure and is designed to provide a firm, flexible sleeping surface even for the most restless sleepers. It also ensures some decent pressure point relief. The Original offers 3″ of T&N Adaptive foam whereas the Mint includes 5″ of Adaptive foam. In the Hybrid mattress, a combination of pocketed springs and T&N Adaptive foam provides pressure point relief.

Support

The support layer is simple but quite dense, which helps it serve as a firm, steady base for the whole bed. The Mint mattress features reinforced edge support as well. In the Hybrid, you’ll find NanoCoils and tempered springs reinforce the edge support, making it even easier to get up and out of bed.

Finally, all Tuft & Needle mattresses are CerrtiPUR-US, and GREENGUARD GOLD certified, ensuring that no harmful chemicals or flame retardants have been used at any stage of the construction process.

Mattress Cover

The Original’s cover is made of micro-polyamide and polyester. It’s very soft and cozy to lie down on. Although it doesn’t feature any natural materials, it seems to feel great for the vast majority of customers who have reviewed the product online. The Mint features a luxurious charcoal gray cover, and the Hybrid has a premium, quilted carbon-infused pillowtop-cover. The covers aren’t removable or washable and should be spot-cleaned only, as advised by the brand.

Firmness, Feel & Support

Overall, Tuft & Needle has been reported to be rather comfortable by previous owners. Another great thing is that, unlike many competitors, the brand doesn’t claim that their product is going to be perfect for all people, and that’s exactly why you get the 100-night free trial option.

The Original can be described as medium-firm, with a gentle, soft cover. The Mint, while also medium-firm, has a softer feel overall than the Original. The bounciness of the adaptive foam layer will be a delight for couples. In particular, the Hybrid mattress has a reactive, bouncier surface thanks to its inner coils.  Due to the absence of a memory foam layer, the sinkage of the mattress is rather low. The mattress is suitable for all types of sleepers.

Motion isolation is also much higher than average in the Original and Mint. While it’s not as good as with some of the other brands on the market, it’s most certainly acceptable for the low price point of Tuft & Needle.

Purchase & Delivery Process

The purchase and delivery process is extremely straightforward. Everything can be done online through the brand’s official website. The well-organized UI makes it easy to pick your desired mattress type and size and proceed to checkout. There is also a 0% financing available. Both shipping and deliveries are free of charge, and all mattresses come with a 100-night free trial. On the flip side, there is no old mattress removal or in-home installation.

Customer support

Tuft & Needle offers standard customer support channels and hours to clients. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and willing to help with any queries. Response times are very low, and many previous customers have been highly satisfied with the service as reported in their reviews. They are available seven days a week and offer phone support, live chat, video tutorials, a blog, and an FAQ page.

  • Blog
The blog is updated rather frequently and consistently (about 4-5 posts per 8-10 days), and features topics like sleep routine, sleeping accessories, Tuft & Needle products and promotions, mattress type comparisons, etc.

Final Word

Overall, Tuft & Needle’s The Original mattress is an excellent bargain for the price. Although the design is very simple, it gets the job done – allows you to get a good night’s sleep and feel rested the following morning. The Tuft & Needle Mint mattress is a step above, featuring an extra layer, slightly softer feel, reinforced edge support, and 30% more graphite and gel beads. Finally, the Hybrid is particularly responsive, combining pocketed springs with adaptive foam for a supportive sleep surface. The high-quality materials and choices available are more than enough to consider giving Tuft & Needle a try. The trademark T&N Adaptive foam ensures that sleepers receive excellent edge support and feel comfortable in any sleeping position. If you’re looking for a high-quality mattress, even on a budget, Tuft & Needle should most certainly be at the top of your list.
